Paterson Rotary Club Announces Re-Newed commitment to Youth Programs as Rotary International Unveils Fifth Avenue of Service.

New Generations Service Avenue Recognizes and Fosters Youth Accomplishments and Activities

PATERSON, NJ - - The Paterson (Noontime) Rotary Club is pleased to announce Rotary International’s Fifth Avenue of Service, “New Generations.”

Rotary International is a world-wide service organization, comprised of business and community leaders who dedicate themselves to “Service Above Self.”  Traditionally Rotarians serve through four Avenues of Service, which are, Community Service, serving a Club’s immediate community; International Service, serving the world through RI or District projects; Vocational, serving through a Rotarian’s specific vocation; and Club Service, serving the respective Club through weekly meetings, administrative and fundraising tasks.

With over 1.2 million Rotarians in over 31,000 clubs world-wide, Rotary International’s Council on Legislation approved the addition of a fifth Avenue of Service, named “New Generations.”

“Although, we’ve always served the youth of Paterson and the world, this new Avenue of Service gives us more focus and it strengthens our commitment to young children, and teens, and even young adults,” said Paterson Rotary President Sandra Bosque.

The Avenue of New Generations recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.

Bosque further stated, “The Paterson Rotary Club, in recognition of this new Avenue of Service, and in recognition of our high school-aged Interact Clubs and college-aged Rotaract Club, will celebrate their community service accomplishments with a pizza social.”

The Paterson Rotary Club sponsors Interact Clubs at Paterson’s Rosa Parks Performing Arts, John F. Kennedy, and PANTHER Academy high schools. Additionally, the club co-sponsors the Interact Club at Manchester Regional High School in Haledon with Haledon Rotary Club. On the college level, The Club sponsors a Rotaract Club at Berkeley College.

Finally, Paterson Rotary’s incoming President Sue Amoresano has also committed to the youth of Paterson in the scope of the New Generations Avenue of Service by announcing plans to reestablish the Paterson Rotary Adopts Public School #14 program, that earned the Paterson Rotary Club, the 2008 Florrie Scialla Outstanding Community Service Award. The project, which needs to be officially approved by the Paterson Educational District, upon approval, will begin July 1st at the start of the new Paterson Rotary year.

Paterson Rotary Raises Funds for Haiti Relief in The Form of ShelterBoxes.

In response to the devastation and need for relief in Haiti, the Paterson (noontime) Rotary Club is raising money for the sponsorship of ShelterBoxes and we are urging business men and women in the Paterson community to join our efforts if they find it possible to do so.

What is ShelterBox?

Shelterbox is a very effective and immediate-response program supported by individual Rotary Clubs worldwide.  ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth, and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide. If you were to look inside these Rotary emblazoned boxes, you would find a sturdy tent which could accomodate ten people, a multi-fuel cook stove with cooking utensils and pots and pans, sleeping mats and sleeping bags, water purification tablets for clean drinking water, which will accomodate 10 people for 6 months, tools that can be used for survival such as flashlights, a wood saw, hatchet, etc.

1500 ShelterBoxes are already on the ground in Haiti's capital, and several thousand more and needed. There are 1.5 million homeless as a result of the Earthquake that devastated the Country.

What Can You Give?

Well, that is a question only you can answer. Each box is $1,000. If you can find it in your heart and wallet to donate $100 toward a ShelterBox, please let us know as soon as possible. No donation is too small. If you can donate $75, $50, $25 toward a ShelterBox, please do. Checks can be made out to Paterson Rotary Club Foundation, and send to 100 Hamilton Plaza, Suite 1201, Paterson, NJ 07505.
