The Paterson Rotary Club has a long-standing committment to community service particularly in the local community.
School 28 Weekend SnackPaks
Youth Hunger is a world wide problem that our local urban community is particularly challenged by. In many families, children rely heavily on the breakfast and lunch provided at school for their daily nutrition. On weekends children are often hungry or eating foods with little nutritional value, due to their lower cost. On Mondays, schools see these child return to class listless, with headaches, stomach aches and often behavorial problems- often stemming from the simple problem of being hungry.
In a partnership effort starting in 2013 between Paterson Public School 28, The Manchest Regional High School Interact Club, The Salvation Army of West Broadway and the Paterson Rotary club, over 50 youth from low income families were provided with a healthy pack of food as they left school on Friday afternoons each week.
Due to the success and overwhelming need that the program has seen, the hope is to expand it during the 2013-2014 school year to a much larger number of children and possibly to additonal schools. For more information on how to donate to support a child or to volunteer, please call us at 973-881-7300. It costs only $100 to feed a child for an entire school year!
